What is Biomass?
Biomass refers to living and recently dead biological material that can be used as fuel or for industrial production. Most commonly, biomass refers to plant matter grown for use as BioFuels.
Where does SMEC get so much Biomass?
The majority of materials are supplied to Show Me Energy Cooperative by it’s members.
Does SMEC purchase biomass from outside the membership?
Yes. SMEC anticipates that the need for biomass material will exceed what the membership has committed. SMEC will purchase from outside sources as needed.
Who burns biomass energy pellets?
The largest customers of Show Me Energy are utility plants. Several utility companies have conducted test burns with biomass pellets, gathering information from the positive effects that biomass has on their emissions.
